The Closet of a College Student

What’s up guys! Today’s post is one that I wish more people would talk about; day to day outfits for college. I know it sounds pretty basic, but this is something I literally struggle with every morning.

My problem is that the same outfit gets boring. Switching between a different pair of leggings and a sweatshirt (because obviously comfort is key in college) just doesn’t do me that much justice. I am always looking to stay comfortable but look put together at the same time.

Down below are 4 outfits (one for every school day since I don’t have Friday classes) that are my go- to’s in the morning.

Outfit #1: Athleisure:

This is probably one of my favorite trends right now. It is so easy to throw on in the morning while looking like you put hours of effort into getting ready. For me, leggings are my favorite thing to wear to class because they’re practical and easy to sit through hours of classes in. Even paired with a sweatshirt, it is easy to accessorize in order to look like you put in a lot more effort than you actually did. For example, a simple pair of black leggings and a sweatshirt can be dressed up with your favorite pair of athletic sneakers (I usually go to Nike Air Force 1s or Adidas) and a baseball hat. These few additions make a HUGE difference. If a sweatshirt isn’t your style, or if it is a little too warm for a sweatshirt, a basic t-shirt paired with a denim jacket or even zip up sweatshirt gives the same effect.

Outfit #2: All Black:

This next trend might come off as a surprise, but is one I have come to absolutely love. It’s crazy to me how a color can change the entire aspect of an outfit, but I have found it can make any outfit look just a bit more put together. For this kind of outfit, I place the emphasis on the shoes I am wearing. This is also a great way to incorporate your unique sense of style into such a simple outfit! For me, I wear my go-to black leggings and pair it with a black tunic. To dress it up more you can always wear a black sweater too. The shoes I typically go to are my Steve Madden booties that zip down on the sides exposing faux fur. These shoes make the outfit look a lot nicer than it actually is since the emphasis is focused on one specific part. Depending on the season you can always switch it up with adding a pair of riding boots (fall seasons), snow boots (winter seasons), or even ballet flats (spring seasons), and of course, your favorite pair of athletic sneakers for a more casual look. To dress up (or down) this outfit more is all about accessories. A leather or denim jacket can add more depth to the look. Even adding a scarf can dress the outfit up as well while still giving the comfort of wearing a pair of simple leggings.

Outfit #3: Joggers:

Ever have those days where you wake up and want to just stay in your pajamas? Yeah same. These are the days where I have jogger sweatpants to fall back on. Joggers provide the comfort of pajamas while still looking on trend. Comfort is a HUGE trend that most college students abide by on the daily. After all, we are students and we are l-a-z-y. Sometimes I still struggle with creating a completely “put together” outfit with joggers but here are a few tips and tricks to at least make it seem like you didn’t completely just roll out of bed. Whenever I wear joggers, I usually wear a fun pair of sneakers or my Steve Madden booties. This off the bat adds to the outfit instead of throwing on a pair of moccasins or Uggs which can often be mistaken for slippers. My favorite way to wear joggers is paired with a graphic t-shirt with a little tie at the bottom. When you tie a t- shirt into a knot at the bottom, it creates a more figure flattering look with dimension. Since joggers are technically sweatpants, they tend to be baggier even though they cinch at the ankles. I love to pair this outfit with my oversized teddy coat. Even though a teddy coat is SUPER casual and can make the outfit look more like pajamas, it is such a huge trend on college campuses right now and no one thinks twice about it. Honestly, if people see a teddy coat they probably think you’re up to date on current trends.

Outfit #4: Teddy Coats:

Ok I know this isn’t completely an “outfit” but this is a staple item that really can make or break an outfit. Teddy coats can be used to dress up or down a look honestly. These are so on trend right now, I personally see people wearing them for any occasion and at any location. It is such a basic item it can be paired with any outfit. Since I focus on comfort, I rarely wear denim to class unless I’m (for some reason) feeling like dressing up. Yes, I consider wearing denim to class dressing up. Crazy, I know. Anyhow… teddy coats are so versatile and just make you look fashionable even if the pieces you are wearing are basic. Another great thing about teddy coats is that they come in multiple colors, most of which are neutrals that can again be paired with any type of outfit. I love the camel trend right now, but I also love my black teddy jacket that I wear all the time.

Ok guys that’s all I have for this time. Let me know if you liked this post and if it was helpful at all! I am also very open to suggestions for other posts you want to see. Also, quick side note: the Steve Madden booties I keep referring to are called the Wanda Wedge (technically sneakers not booties). I hope this post found you well and I can’t wait for the next!

Xo,

D
